Macro problems need micro solutions
Do you like the colours of your clothes? That great taste in fashion comes at a cost - an environmental cost.
Dyes making those colours are mainly synthetic, and they are often toxic and difficult to degrade. Marine death and serious health problems are the result when dyes are dumped into rivers without proper treatment.
For our project, we created a small platform based on nanoplasmonic technology that helps break these dyes down at the molecular scale and, for a short period of time, by using the power of the sun. This micro-sized platform can potentially save the lives of animals and people living nearby water bodies.
