‘Dean's Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence’ award for Margaret Abat
Margaret Abat received the prestigious Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence, recognising her outstanding work and PhD thesis.
Dr Abat’s thesis was entitled “The development of new slow-release boron fertilizers”, supervised by Mike McLaughlin, Fien Degryse and Roslyn Baird, from the Fertiliser Technology Research Centre.
The fertilisers Margaret developed improved the efficiency of boron uptake in plants reducing environmental leaching losses in high rainfall areas and minimizing seeding toxicity when fertilizer is placed in close proximity to seeds.
The outcomes of this innovative research were published in four high quality scientific journals:
- Journal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science
- Plant and Soil
- Soil Science Society of America Journal
- Soil Research
FTRC would like to congratulate Margaret for this prestigious distinction.
