Australian Society for Off-Earth Construction
The Australian Society for Off-Earth Construction (ASOC) is dedicated to facilitating the development and translation of Australia's expertise in construction in off-earth environments.
The Society is a vehicle for facilitating off-earth construction solutions via:
- investment
- research and development
- production
- manufacture
- application
- commercialisation.
ASOC brings together like-minded individuals and organisations involved with construction and infrastructure development off-earth. It can also inform stakeholders in adjacent and related areas such as robotics, mining and in-situ resource utilisation (ISRU), energy, defence, agriculture, and medicine.
The Society is your opportunity to be part of this exciting new initiative as we push the bounds of activity and sustained human presence in off-earth environments.
About the Society
Joining the Australian Society for Off-Earth Construction (ASOC) will give you visibility in the sector and will allow you to network with like-minded individuals and companies. We will be offering a range of membership categories (individual, organisation, university) and also a range of products such as networking activities and publications (e.g., guidelines, specifications and best practices).
As a member, you will have the opportunity to attend workshops and networking events, mini-symposia and industry forums, as well as participate in working groups to advance specific priorities or activities.
Register your interest to be the first to know when more information comes available.
International Symposium on Off-Earth Construction
The International Symposium on Off-Earth Construction (ISOC) is the official conference of the Australian Society for Off-Earth Construction (ASOC). ISOC is open to a wide range of stakeholders such as researchers, academics, students, investors, manufacturers, consultants, contractors and policy makers. It will showcase research, development and application of construction practices and technology as well as infrastructure in off-earth environments. The symposium includes technical and industry presentations as well as a trade show in order to comprehensively engage all key stakeholders.
The Inaugural International Symposium on Off-Earth Construction (ISOC 2022) will be held in Adelaide, Australia in 2022.

ASOC Leadership
The Australian Society for Off-Earth Construction is led by Professor Scott Smith.
Scott is Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Adelaide. His areas of interest include sustainable materials development and application of advanced materials (e.g., fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites) for terrestrial and off-earth infrastructure applications. He is also Director of the Construction module for the Andy Thomas Centre for Space Resources (ATCSR).
