Professor David Lewis
Head of School, Chemical Engineering
David is an experienced Chartered Chemical Engineer with a strong background in leadership. His work experience provides him with significant industry knowledge in the petroleum, mining, automation, hospitality and defence sectors. David has gained international recognition in the biomass processing industry, in particular. From 2011 to 2016, David managed a technology start-up company which developed new commercial opportunities around the production of sustainable oils from hydrothermal liquefaction of organically rich wastes. The company used renewable feedstocks such as biomass and organic wastes, and David continues to consult within this industry. As an academic, David teaches Process Engineering to undergraduate students and supervises postgraduate students on projects involving process technology R&D including design and commercialisation. His academic focus is on leadership, education and mentoring in addition to improving productivity, quality and safety within the School.
Deputy Head of School
Associate Professor Yan Jiao
