Rationale
In focus groups, veterinary employers and practice managers were asked what business skills the veterinary graduate needs most (AVBA conference, 2013). The two key themes that emerged were:
- Business financial skills, especially an understanding of costs and break-even points, how to charge for services, the impact of missed charges and the ability to discuss the value of veterinary services.
- Business communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff, as well as negotiation skills.
