Rationale

In focus groups, veterinary employers and practice managers were asked what business skills the veterinary graduate needs most (AVBA conference, 2013). The two key themes that emerged were:

Business financial skills, especially an understanding of costs and break-even points, how to charge for services, the impact of missed charges and the ability to discuss the value of veterinary services.
Business communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff, as well as negotiation skills.
