Environmental Engineering
Environmental Engineering enables the transition to a more sustainable future. Working at the intersection of environmental, social and economic systems, our internationally renowned research and teaching helps to create more environmentally friendly infrastructure and technologies.
Our industry expertise encompasses natural hazards, climate change, minimising impact and maximising resource utilisation, designing waste out of existing systems, regenerating the environment – and even addressing the challenges of long-term space exploration and off-planet construction.
Research
Global concern about water resources, energy, food, pollution, waste, natural hazards, and climate change is on the rise. This is creating demand for new industries to develop sustainable solutions.

Extensive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
We pass this wealth of knowledge onto our students, and Adelaide is a particularly good laboratory to study and teach sustainability. It is hot, arid and energy poor. We prepare graduates to take on these tough environmental challenges.
Undergraduate and honours degrees
Our Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Environmental and Climate Solutions covers air and water pollution control, natural hazards, waste management, and environmental impact assessment.
Double degrees
Enhance your employment opportunities significantly with our comprehensive double degrees in Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Environmental and Climate Solutions)
- With Bachelor of Finance and Banking
- With Bachelor of Mathematical and Computer Sciences
- With Bachelor of Science
Postgraduate degrees
Our Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Civil & Environmental) is a solid foundation year to our Master of Engineering (Civil and Environmental) in which students practise civil engineering analysis and design, study environmental science, modelling and management, explore water and hydrology engineering. They also develop key research and business skills.

Collaborations
We collaborate across the built and natural environment with a focus on sustainability. We are experts in systems thinking, assessing risk and uncertainty, managing diverse stakeholder groups, integrating models with overlapping boundaries and working with large datasets.
As Environmental Engineers, we provide inputs to managers and decision makers ranging from policy development, assessing infrastructure options, responses to natural hazards and climate impacts, and design of engineering solutions that interact with the environment.
