Five possibilities for a pine cone

Five possibilities for a pine cone

By Gaoshuang Wei, Studio Cultures: Landscape Architecture

This project is located in the central area of the Waite Campus, surrounded by Waite Building, Charles Hawker Building, vineyard, Waite Arboretum.

However, due to the lack of entertainment functions, the utilization rate in this area is very low.

The theme of this project is agriculture, hoping to attract more students by building an edible garden. At the same time, in order to prevent the project being affected by the seasons, many evergreen and drought-tolerant plants are also widely used in the site.

In this project, Charles Hawker Building is directly connected to the project by using steps combined with planting ponds. On the one hand, it is convenient for students to pass between the building and the edible garden; on the other hand, the topography of the site, Charles Hawker Building and the edible garden and the ground are merged together.

For programming, this project not only focuses on planting activities of edible gardens, but also makes reasonable planning for the food picking and harvest festivals after the plants are mature as well as students’ daily rest and play.
