Let's improve the way science is communicated

Science writing... how can we improve reader confidence and learning?

""

Science strives to create a global culture that embraces people. We want to be diverse, inclusive and equitable. We want science to relevant. Useful to policy makers and innovators, to name two.

Unfortunately, scientists communicate in dull and dense ways that make it difficult to understand and erodes confidence. Many ethnic backgrounds and women remain underrepresented in senior positions and the uptake of science by the general public remains limited.

This project will test the effect of different types of science writing on reader confidence. It will test how it affects student learning, how it affects policy uptake and how positive change in the way we write may improve diversity.
