World-leading economic geologist returns home to Adelaide

One of the University of Adelaide's most distinguished alumni and one of the world's preeminent economic geologists, Ken McClay, has recently returned to his hometown roots to take up a Honorary Professorship at the Australian School of Petroleum.

Ken graduated with a Honours degree in Economic Geology in 1970, and following MSc and PhD degrees from Imperial College London, spent 27 years as Professor of Structural Geology at Royal Holloway University of London, where he was Director of the Fault Dynamic Research Group, pioneering the application of quantitative scaled analogue models to develop 4D evolutionary models of fault and fracture development in Earth's brittle upper crust. Ken has published >190 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, successfully supervised 62 PhD students and 32 postdoctoral researchers and received >£10M in research grants from NERC and the international petroleum industry.

In 2000 Ken was awarded a DSc from the University of Adelaide for his contributions to Structural Geology and Tectonics research. Ken's return to Adelaide significantly boosts both the capabilities of the Stress, Structure and Seismic Research Group and the ASP's Petroleum Geoscience MSc program.
