The SBRC Building is a 6 Star Green Star, net-zero energy building, that has been designed to meet the requirements of the Living Building Challenge.
Professor Paul Cooper, Director of the research centre will provide an overview of the research and facilities of the SBRC. It is home to a research team of approximately 40 staff and students and has a wide range of features and research facilities, that range from a 160kWp solar PV array and microgrid, through ground source heat pumps, to a new $1.8M ‘Building Insights Facility’ for thermal testing of building facades and air conditioning systems.
He will also describe recent research highlights onlarge-footprint cool roofs, effects of Indoor Environmental Quality on residents in aged care facilities, and the recent Team UOW Desert Rose campaign where by the student/staff team won second place in the Solar Decathlon Middle East competition in December 2018.
About Professor Paul Cooper
Paul Cooper is a Senior Professor and the Director of the University of Wollongong’s Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC). Paul has been involved in research on a wide variety of topics in sustainable buildings, energy systems, energy efficiency and fluid mechanics over the past 35 years.
Paul was previously the Head of the School of Mechanical, Materials and Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Wollongong prior to taking up his present appointment as the Founding Director of the SBRC in 2010.
Paul was also the Faculty Advisor and the lead academic on the winning Team UOW Solar Decathlon China 2013 campaign and a member of the Desert Rose Solar Decathlon team that won 2nd place in the Solar Decathlon Middle East competition near Dubai in Dubai 2018.
