Abstract

Exploring Useful Synthetic Reactions with Quantum Chemistry

Our laboratory uses molecular modelling techniques as a lens for examining molecular behaviour in atomic-level detail. In particular, we use transition state modelling to explore aspects of reaction mechanisms that cannot readily be studied by experiment. These simulations enable us to understand why reactions lead to certain products rather than others, and how reaction outcomes can be controlled. This talk will describe recent examples of our research in the areas of asymmetric organocatalysis and C-H activation.
