Abstract
High power laser spectroscopy for anti-stokes fluorescence
Anti-stokes fluorescence or 'upconversion' is the emission of light at a shorter wavelength than was used for excitation. Fluorescence sensing of materials is very commonplace, but upconversion sensing is often only found in combination with highly engineered materials such as nanoparticles.
The limitation of upconversion is the high intensity excitation light needed to drive the phenomenon, but if that is overcome then there exists the potential for more accurate and specific fluorescence sensing. Towards this, a unique 'dual-wavelength' fluorescence spectroscopy set-up has been built in the Braggs basement, driven by high powered pulsed lasers tunable to UV-Vis-NIR-IR
