Abstract

Acyl, aryl, and alkyl radicals for synthesis

MCERLEAN-Chris-Figure 1

The generation of functional molecules fuels the development of new synthetic strategies and methods. In this presentation, recent developments from the McErlean Research Group will be discussed, with a particular emphasis on the generation of radical intermediates for application to total synthesis.

An increasing awareness of the environmental impacts of synthetic techniques, in terms of toxicity and energy usage, has seen a dramatic shift in the methods used to unveil acyl, aryl, and alkyl radicals. This presentation will detail the application of metal-based and metal-free methods to chemoselectively generate and trap those reactive eintermediates.
