Innovation Studios

Our Innovation Studios are fully-equipped workshops where, as a student, you can develop ideas, manufacture components and produce prototypes for projects.

With individual workshops including the Creation Studio, Fabrication Studio and Additive Studio (3D Prototyping Lab); the Innovation Studios feature a wide range of tools and equipment for you to use when working on projects.

Creation studio

In the Creation Studio, you can design, develop and test ideas for interactive projects across different areas of engineering and technology. The studio features a range of general hand tools, access to soldering irons, and more.

Fabrication studio

Dedicated to the art of hands-on fabrication, as a student, you can utilise this space to develop your skills in safe fabrication practices. The studio features a range of hand tools, laser cutters, a drill press, hand-operated cutting and folding equipment, Computer Numerical Control machining (CNC), along with materials such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fasteners, glues, acrylic, and aluminium.

  • Who can use the studios?

    You can use the studios if you are a current undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering, and Technology at the University of Adelaide.

  • Do I need training to access the studios?

    Yes. You will need to complete safety inductions and equipment training before you will be able to use the studios. Once you have completed training, you will be given swipe card access to the studios and key or card access to the relevant equipment.

  • How do I book the studios?

    You can book the studios using the online studio booking form. While no activity will have priority over another, you will need to book time in the studios. You can choose from short-term (2 hours), medium-term (half-day) and long-term (up to two days) hire.

  • Can I store my project at the studios?

    Yes, however, storage is only permitted in allocated storage areas for active projects.
