Upskilling & Awareness

AAGI is committed to delivering training and skills development in analytics to growers and researchers working in the Australian grains industry and agricultural sector.

Our AAGI-AU node provides workshops and short courses on statistics, computation and experimental design for agronomic research, as well as tailored mentoring for researchers working on GRDC-funded projects and professional development for AAGI analysts.

  • AAGI-AU/Biometry Hub Training Program

    SAGI-STH Training workshop

AAGI-AU, in partnership with the Biometry Hub, delivers practical, hands-on training to build statistical and data science capability across the Australian grains research community. Through a suite of accessible workshops, researchers learn to use R and RStudio for experimental design, data analysis, and reproducible reporting. Designed and taught by experienced industry practitioners, the workshops are tailored to real-world agronomic challenges and require no prior statistical background. With flexible delivery options and a supportive learning environment, AAGI-AU empowers researchers at all levels to confidently apply analytics in grains research and contribute to data-driven agricultural innovation. For more information see the Biometry Hub Training and Events page.

  • Statistical Community of Practice (CoP)

Graduates of the Biometry Hub Workshops are invited to join AAGI-AU’s Monthly Community of Practice (CoP), a supportive, online forum that extends learning beyond the classroom. The CoP connects workshop alumni with peers and statistical experts, offering a collaborative space to discuss challenges, share insights, and receive guidance on applying statistical methods to real research problems. Whether refining experimental designs or troubleshooting data analysis in R, participants benefit from ongoing mentorship and community-driven learning. This initiative ensures continued skill development and fosters a strong network of analytics practitioners across the Australian grains research community.

  • AAGI-AU Professional Development and Enhancement

    AAGI-AU professional development

At AAGI-AU, we are committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Our internal professional development program supports all staff across the broad analytics disciplines in AAGI-AU, enhancing technical skills, leadership capabilities, and collaborative research practices. These initiatives are closely aligned with our Higher Degree by Research (HDR) development efforts, ensuring that emerging researchers are mentored within a vibrant, multidisciplinary environment. By investing in our people, we are building long-term capacity in analytics linked to agriculture, empowering our team to lead innovation in the grains sector and deliver lasting impact for the Australian grains industry.

    • The StatsPD@Waite is a long-running seminar series hosted by the Biometry Hub, showcasing work of significance and work in progress to advance best-practice statistics in agricultural research. For over 20 years, it has supported professional development and enhancement across all career stages, engaging HDR students, early-career researchers, and experienced academics alike through open and practice-informed discussion.
