Training and Events

The Biometry Hub offers a variety of training opportunities and other events.

Biometry Hub Workshops

As part of the Biometry Education Initiative, the Biometry Hub and the AAGI-AU project provide statistical training and support to researchers working in Australia’s agricultural sector and the Australian grains industry, via the delivery of a tailored suite of hands-on training workshops.

The workshops, focusing on the use of R for statistical computing and the design and analysis of agronomic experiments, are developed and delivered by experienced grains industry researchers that work closely with growers and agronomists in the industry. The workshops are highly practical with many real-world examples explored in the content, and the material is carefully designed to support researchers at all stages of their statistical education—no statistical background is required, and the workshops introduce the concepts in a gentle and supportive progression without any overwhelming technical details or intimidating equations.

Our workshops:

  • Are developed and taught by practicing industry researchers, with material informed by years of practical experience working closely with agricultural researchers,
  • Offer flexible delivery, with your choice of attendance in person or online via Zoom,
  • Provide personalised support and approachable instruction in an inclusive and encouraging environment.

Our current suite of training workshops covers an introduction to statistical computing with R and RStudio, the design and analysis of experiments, and reproducible research reporting using Quarto and the Tidyverse.

  1. Introduction to R and RStudio
  2. Planning and designing an agronomic experiment
  3. Statistical analysis of agronomic experiments
  4. Reporting with Quarto and manipulating data with the Tidyverse

Additional workshops are in development.

Monthly Community of Practice

Graduates of the Biometry Hub Workshops suite above are invited to join our monthly online Community of Practice (CoP). The CoP operates as a supportive network of peers and statistical experts, and provides an opportunity to get advice and help with applying statistical design and analysis concepts to your own data and research, and ensures a continuation of the learning and guidance beyond the workshops.
