OLT Grant: An Evidenced-Based Approach to the Design and Redevelopment of Inclusive Online Learning Environments

CSER researchers have been involved in the successful award of $211,000 in OLT funding, to investigate An Evidenced-Based Approach to the Design and Redevelopment of Inclusive, Technology-Enhanced Learning Environments.

The project is lead by UniSA’s Associate Professor Denise Wood, who has worked extensively in the area of online learning, accessibility and usability design.

This project involves a collaboration of four Australian universities and two South African universities as well as the not-for-profit sector and the open-source community working together to investigate strategies for improving the online learning experience of students from diverse backgrounds through inclusive design.

The project aims to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Investigate appropriate strategies for the design of inclusive technology enhanced learning environments
  • Showcase case studies of best practice across a range of disciplinary fields
  • Develop inclusive design guidelines to assist academics in the design and redevelopment of their courses
  • Design, develop and trial a prototype responsive learning environment, which adapts to student needs by delivering content that is personalised to meet their individual accessibility needs and learning preferences.

The CSER Group at the University of Adelaide have nominated two programming courses for the project and we are excited to share the findings with you when we have completed the re-design!

The project has been funded by the Australian Government’s Office for Learning and Teaching, Department of Innovation and is due for completion in July 2015. If you would like more information about the project, visit the Project website, here, or you may contact the Lead Project Officer, Professor Denise Wood.
