Prestigous Post-Doctoral Fellowship from TUBITAK
Congratulations to Dr Ahmet Gunes Yardimci from the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering, who has been awarded a prestigious Post-Doctoral Fellowship by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).
This award is given to high achieving young scholars to continue their research in highly specialised research institutes. Dr Yardimci will be working with Associate Professor Murat Karakus on the development of a new model for brittle materials including rock, coal, and concrete.
After an early career experience in an open pit Nickel mine, he worked as an Research Fellow in a top mining school in Turkey (METU). Completing his PhD studies in the same department, his research output, which is an intelligent algorithm solving an underground mine design problem, was acknowledged in the Innovation in Mining Contest 2018. Recently, he worked in the Ministry of Transportation as a Research Engineer focusing on many geotechnical projects in Turkey. Dr Yardimci’s research interests include Experimental Rock Mechanics, Numerical Modelling and Intelligent Algorithms.
