Marine & freshwater ecology & fish biology
Dive into research with the Gillanders Aquatic Ecology Group and contribute to research in freshwater, estuarine and marine waters focusing on fish, cephalopods and environmental issues.
Projects are available in the areas of:
- Plastics in marine and terrestrial environments
- Cumulative impacts in marine and freshwater systems
- Ecological and environmental change using calcified structures of organisms
- Population structure and connectivity of fish populations
- Cephalopod biology, ecology and fisheries
- Impacts of coastal management activities on carbon storage in mangrove and saltmarsh

The lab’s main research areas are:
- Ecological and environmental change
- Integrated marine management with a focus on Spencer Gulf
- Population structure and connectivity
- Cephalopod biology, ecology and fisheries
- Carbon storage and other ecosystem services provided by coastal wetland ecosystems (seagrass, mangrove and saltmarsh)
A number of projects involve collaboration with researchers from SARDI Aquatic Sciences, Department of Environment and Water and the Environment Protection Agency.
