Modelling and analysis of cell survival data from hadron therapy

The clonogenic cell survival of malignant tumours after irradiation with energetic proton beams is universally accepted as having a relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of 1.1. 

The linear-quadratic model (LQ) is used in the field to model the surviving fraction of cells in a tumour at a given radiative dose. 

This project will model simulated and experimental cell survival data to be described by different biological parameters while being statistically rigorous. Universally applicable models to describe the reaction of cells to radiation may make for improved accuracy in treatment planning. These models could potentially be applied across proton therapy centres worldwide.
