ECMS at Hopper Down Under

The University of Adelaide supported 25 undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with 14 staff members to attend the inaugural Hopper Down Under conference, held in Brisbane from 29-31 July.

Hopper Down Under was inspired by the Grace Hopper Celebration, held in the US each year by the Anita Borg Institute as a celebration of women in technology - providing a rare opportunity to showcase the contributions of women in technology. 

Hopper Down Under is the first event like this to be hosted in Australia, and was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate, inspire and support women technologists as technology becomes increasingly important to society. This inaugural event saw over 700 women technologists gather - industry leaders, researchers, educators and students - to build relationships, share their knowledge and advance their careers. The University of Adelaide was a silver sponsor for this conference, with Professor Katrina Falkner a member of the local organising committee working in partnership with the Anita Borg Institute to bring this event to Australia for the first time. 

The objectives of Hopper Down Under are to work together to build community, strengthen our collective, diverse voices, promote inclusion and inspire action - to show that #wearehere.
