Researcher awarded significant grant to analyse Australian ore properties with new low-carbon processing technologies
Researcher awarded $450K grant by HILT CRC
Congratulations to Dr Zhiwei Sun from the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, University of Adelaide, who was recently awarded a $450K grant for a 2-year program by HILT CRC. The innovative project aims to analyse the physical and chemical properties of Australian ores to better understand the impact of new low-carbon processing technologies.
Researchers will use unique laser heating and advanced optical diagnosing methods to real-time, in-situ, to measure the ores’ properties. This research seeks to assess the impact of new reactor conditions and heating techniques under development for heavy industry decarbonisation.
This program – which commenced in September 2024 – is in collaboration with the Australia National University, the University of Newcastle, and industry partners South32, EGA, Hydro and Calix.
