Young Women in STEM - resounding success for 2020
This year we offered our Young Women in STEM event virtually and were overwhelmed with the positive response and engagement.
It’s amazing to see what young people can achieve in just a few short hours!
With 140 high school girls from metro Adelaide and regional SA participating, we guided the groups through several challenges such as origami using architectural techniques, and a step by step hydraulic scissor lift from our provided flatpacks.
Delivered via Zoom, this workshop challenged the participants listening skills, their teamwork and problem solving, all highly sought after skills in STEM jobs.
The session finished with a Q&A Panel of our current students and alumni:
- Luisa Panuccio
Project Manager, Dept Planning Transport Infrastructure - Azriel Poskey-Miles
Bachelor of Engineering, Chemical & Pharmaceutical - Isabelle Greco
Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences (Adv) & Diploma of Languages - Ellen Watson
Bachelor of Engineering Mechanical & Finance - Maddie Simmonds
Bachelor of Engineering Mechanical & Bachelor of Science Physics Major
The schools who joined us virtually were:
- Endeavour College
- Loxton High School
- Tenison Woods College
- Botanic High School
- University Senior College
- Mitcham Girls High School
- Scotch College
All in all, a hugely successful day celebrating and encouraging girls into STEM. Thank you to our dream team of contributors and our Schools and participants.
A huge congratulations to the young women for their accomplishments!
