Winners of 2024 Resources Sector Scholarships announced
SET faculty students awarded all 17 scholarships at Playford Trust ceremony
The high calibre of the SET faculty’s students was recognised at the Playford Trust's Resources Sector Awards ceremony on Tuesday 23 July, at the National Wine Centre. Faculty of SET students impressively secured all 17 scholarships, each worth up to $10,000.
These awards – supported by the SA Chamber of Mines and Energy (SACOME) – are designed to drive change and improvements across the South Australian resources and energy sector by fostering industry talent. Winners of the scholarships from the Faculty of SET are engaged in diverse fields, including geoscience, geology, geophysics, mining engineering, computer science, and chemical engineering – all of which will contribute to significant advancements in technology, safety and sustainability in the future.

The 2024 student support comes from industry partners such as BHP, Iluka Resources, Rex Minerals, Santos and the Department for Energy and Mining. Additionally, seven scholarships have been funded under the Playford Trust's broader scholarship program, sponsored by AusIMM, BHP, the Geological Society of Australia (GSA), and Peak Iron Mines, and were awarded to a mix of Honours, fourth-year, and final year students from the University of Adelaide only.
David Lewis, Acting Executive Dean at the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology commented, “Supporting future leaders in the industry through the Playford Trust reinforces our faculty's contribution and commitment to a net-zero carbon energy future and the pursuit of an equitable standard of living.
