On top of the world: Sciences research ranks high in ERA results
Science research at the University of Adelaide has reached new heights according to the 2018 Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) results released this week.
All of the sciences’ Fields of Research (FoR) codes recorded a rating of:
- 4 - above world standard, or
- 5 - well above world standard.
“I congratulate all our researchers in helping us achieve these excellent results for Sciences, and am very grateful for the effort involved,” says Faculty of Sciences Executive Dean, Professor Keith Jones.
“The result demonstrates the incredible breadth and depth of excellence in sciences research and is overall a marked improvement on previous ERA results.”
Significant increases were noted in zoology research which jumped from a rating of three to five. Several other subjects also reached the rating of five for the first time.
Faculty of Sciences ERA results – 2018
Research area | Result |
---|---|
FoR 02 - Physical Sciences | Maintained the top rating of 5 at both 2 and 4 digits FoR code levels |
FoR 03 - Chemical Sciences | Improved to the top rating of 5 at both the 2 and all 4-digit levels |
FoR 04 - Earth Sciences | Improved to the top rating of 5 at the 2-digit level, and maintained its 4-digit ratings |
FoR 05 - Environmental Sciences | Maintained its rating of 4 at the 2-digit level |
FoR 06 - Biological Sciences | Improved to the top rating of 5 at the 2-digit level, with 5 of the 6 submitted 4-digit codes improving or maintaining their rating (and a particularly notable improvement in Zoology jumping two spots to the top rating of 5) |
FoR 07 - Agricultural & Veterinary Sciences | Improved to the top rating of 5, with two of the submitted 4-digit codes increasing their rating, and 2 maintaining their top rating of 5 |
Sciences’ research also contributed significantly to other codes such as the rating of 5 for Medical Microbiology under the Medical and Health Sciences code.
